Discover the expressive possibilities of drawing inks while creating an imaginative ink portrait filled with colour, linework and personality.
You’ll learn how to work with bottled drawing inks, traditional dip nibs and a glass pen. Michelle will demonstrate how flowing colour, ink washes, loose linework, drips and decorative details can be combined to create expressive mixed-media artwork.
Printed face references and tracing options will be provided, allowing you to trace your chosen design or draw it freehand. You do not need to feel confident drawing faces to enjoy this workshop.
IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL:
• Learn how to use drawing inks, a traditional dip nib and a glass pen
• Explore expressive lines, marks, drips and ink washes
• Experiment with controlling the ink while embracing unexpected effects
• Combine flowing colour and linework in a mixed-media portrait
• Add patterns, decorative details and finishing marks
• Create four A6 technique samples for your reference collection
• Begin a larger A4 artwork if time permits
• Receive a class kit containing products and materials to take home
No previous ink, pen or portrait-drawing experience is required. The workshop includes demonstrations, printed references, tracing options and individual guidance throughout.
